1650

When George Fox, the founder of the Religious Society of Friends, admonished the court to 'tremble at the word of the Lord', Judge Gervase Bennet mockingly labeled him and his followers as quackers.

1681

William Penn found the 'Quaker Party' based on religious tolerance and quaker principles (e.g. pacifism and equitable treatment of Native Americans)

1754

The French and Indian War challenged the quakers' pacifism beliefs especially by those who wanted defensive measures.

1756

Many quaker legislators resign from the assembly.

1917

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) brings people together of all faiths and backgrounds together.

#tremble is to call attention to your disapproval on moral grounds. When using #tremble feel free to cite your source of moral reference. Remember to always be respectful of others and their beliefs. That is what makes us Quakers.
